Undercover

Undercover, under-the-cover,

Escaping from my mother.

I read about a distant monocular light,

So awake in the dead of each tranquil night.

The protagonist is a powerful mage,

From a long-lost place and age.

Looking towards the stars with hope,

Amplified by the power of his magical peering scope.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

I sense the presence of another.

A knock on the door,

A creak of the floor.

A disturbance in the air,

But I don’t care.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

A layer to protect and recover.

Within, I dive further down,

Next, it’s about a King and his missing crown.

A long-lost legendary tale,

Where he searches to no avail.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

What follows is a mysterious feat of a brother.

Who takes on an unfortunately dare,

That leads to nothing but despair.

The horrid outcome is a story for another time,

At this I draw a line.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

My escape from the tedium of the other.

In this artificially created night,

I find a world of much delight.

The adventures are getting to my head,

As I lie down on my bed.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

Reality can no longer my aspiration smother.

I can become a king, a hero or a spy,

With the confidence of a falcon that can fly.

As I fall into a deep sleep,

I no longer emit a peep.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

I’m a knight in the arms of a lover.

Floating towards my dream,

I arrive in the presence of a radiant queen.

I set out on her demanding quest,

In the distant lands of the west.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

As I soar above her.

I fall deeper into my hypnotic trance,

And ride out with determination and my lance.

In search of a mythical fire-breathing beast,

Who has a habit of making everything a feast.

Across the barren lands, I reveal a cryptic sign,

Which leads me to his lair, in an abandoned mine.
Before it pounces with a terrifying bite,

It succumbs to my newly found might.

Undercover, under-the-cover,

Time is nigh to venture and discover.

With the aura of impending dawn,

I awake and emerge, a hero born.

Life’s obstacles to overcome,

Tackling them at the steady beat of a drum.

This experience I must repeat,

For it gives me the power and courage to beat.
